Chamblee Heads to Class 5A Tennis Semis with 3-0 win over Glynn Academy
A trip to the Class 5A Boys’ State Tennis Tournament has been secured by the Chamblee Bulldogs with a 3-0 Elite Eight victory over the Glynn Academy Terrors at the Blackburn Tennis Center in Brookhaven.
Chamblee’s No. 3 singles player Kavi Pallen got his first taste of state tournament play and like what he got on the court giving the Bulldogs (11-3) their first point of the match with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Glynn’s Weston Wells.
Chamblee was up a set at No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles when Pallen finished his match.
The second point came from the No. 1 doubles duo of William Hackney and Alex Coursey as they took on Glynn’s Andrew McKinnon and Cameron Schuenaman. The Bulldog pair lost just one game in their 6-0, 6-1 win.
Jacob Dorland was up a set with a 6-3 win in his opener versus Glynn’s Cameron Gazaway and Landon Marcus was up a set with 6-4 win against Graham Meetz.
The No. 2 doubles of Owen Flake and Sid Hore lost their first set 4-6 to Glynn’s pair of James Kavanaugh and Henry Akins. They forced a third set with a 6-0 win in the second set.
Dorland was up a set at No. 1 singles with his opening 6-4 win but found himself trailing Gazaway 4-5 in the second set. Dorland got back to work breaking Gazaway twice on the way to winning the final three games to take the match with a 7-5 second set victory.
The Bulldogs advance to the Class 5A semifinals on Saturday, May 10 at 8:30 am at Berry College in Rome against McIntosh, a 3-0 winner over Rome in the third round of play. A win over McIntosh would advance the Bulldogs to the championship match at 5:30 pm at Berry College.
